GESS Indonesia 2019 Officially Opened, 80 Exhibitors from 15 Countries Competing in Creativity

The 2019 Global Educational Supplies & Solutions (GESS) Indonesia has officially opened on Wednesday (18/09) at the Assembly Hall, Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). Presenting for the fifth time in Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest educational exhibition and conference event is planned to take place over three days, from September 18-20, 2019.

For three days, GESS Indonesia 2019 brought in around 80 exhibitors from 15 countries, showcasing innovative solutions to support education, of which 50 percent of the exhibitors came from other countries around the world.

In his remarks at the opening of GESS Indonesia 2019, the Expert Staff for Innovation and Competitiveness of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Ananto Kusuma Seta, appreciated the presence of GESS Indonesia 2019 for having carried out activities that help in educating the lives of Indonesian children. According to Ananto, the theme of "What Will You Create" raised by GESS Indonesia 2019 is very relevant to the focus of education in Indonesia in the future, which to increase Indonesian children’s creativity.

"Technological progress has a correlation with creativity. In our opinion, the technology presented at GESS Indonesia 2019 can contribute to create creators in Indonesia," he stated on Wednesday (18/09) at the JCC.

Furthermore, Ananto explained that the challenge in national education today is how educators can produce a creator. According to him, in the past, the gap between creators and creations was huge, because people had to go to the library. Now, the distance between both things are much closer with the help of gadgets, getting information is now within our grasp. Thus, an educator is also required to change the way/methods of education, in order to create creators.

"Our education has always been about memorizing. Therefore, we must go to the next level. The highest level is creativity itself," concluded Ananto.

During the three days of its implementation, GESS Indonesia 2019 will also present more than 100 educational conference sessions that can help the development of education in Indonesia. The conferences are divided into five stages, namely GESS Talks, Leadership Stream, Edtech In Action, Innovation Stage, and Future Learning.

The series of conference sessions will present education experts in Indonesia as speakers, including Prof. Arief Rachman, M.Pd (Executive Chairman of Indonesia, National Commission for UNESCO) and Munif Chatib, SH, M.Pd (Director, Next Edu). In addition, some of the international education experts who will be sharing their knowledge are Prof. Dr. Ger Kraus, OBE (Global Director of Education, Kidzania), Dr. Richard Churches, FRSA (Lead Advisor for Education Reform and Evidence Based Practice, Education Development Trust) and Magdalena Matulewicz (President and Co-Founder, Natural Born Leaders).

"We hope that GESS Indonesia 2019 can bring real impact on improving the quality of education in Indonesia," said Tarsus Indonesia's Managing Director, Tri Turturi in his remarks at the opening of GESS Indonesia 2019, Wednesday (18/09).

For information, there are several new features in GESS Indonesia 2019, including Principal Forum that will be held on the second day, and the Regional Government session on the third day.
