Indonesia top in Southeast Asia with most number of international schools, 10th globally

Jakarta, Indonesia; 25 August 2017- Indonesia is the top destination for premium international schools in Southeast Asia, leading the region with 192.

The data was released by ISC Research, the leading supplier of data and intelligence on the English-medium K-12 international schools market, ahead of the GESS Indonesia exhibition and conference, the biggest education show in the region, which will be hosted at the Jakarta Convention Centre on 27-29 September 2017.

Globally, Indonesia placed 10th overall among countries with the most number of international schools. According to Matt Thompson, Project Director, F&E Education, organisers of GESS Indonesia, the country is key market for international school operators as well as education suppliers because of the growing education sector. “It is an emerging education powerhouse, with both the number of local and international schools expected to increase dramatically owing to a growth in student population,” he said.

Thompson says GESS Indonesia is in a good position to support this growth, by gathering internationally-renowned experts to share their insights on opportunities and challenges facing Indonesia’s education sector. “Equally important, education decision makers in Indonesia will have a chance to meet local and global suppliers of a wide range of education-focused products and solutions that will help enhance teacher effectiveness and student performance,” added Thompson.

Following Indonesia, the countries in Southeast Asia with the most number of international schools include Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Philippines, Myanmar, Laos and Brunei. The total number of international schools in Southeast Asia is 1,027, of which 61 new international schools were added in just one year alone, from January 2016 to January 2017.

Now in its third year, GESS Indonesia has the full support of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Jakarta Education Board.

Bringing together thousands of leading educational professionals from across the region and hundreds of the world’s leading educational supplies and solutions suppliers, GESS Indonesia is the premier education conference and exhibition in Southeast Asia. Many companies are using the event to launch their products in the booming Indonesia education market, seeing the show as the most effective way to reach out to a targeted audience.
