Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi wants the vocational education system in Indonesia to have various options, such as an e-sport major.
“Why don’t we have majors in fields such as logistics, retail, animation, or even e-sport,” said President Jokowi today, August 8.
The president reminded that the world is constantly changing where past majors considered to have no merit have become essential in the present time. Therefore, the vocational education system should not be limited to the economics, legal, social politics, or engineering majors.
As an example, the E-Sport has been taken into account in the present day. This type of sport – if it is considered as one - currently attracts the interest of 148 million people worldwide and has recorded an astonishing revenue of US$493 million in 2016, which is 51 percent higher than the previous year.
A number of countries have considered E-Sport as an education major such as in Chung Ang University in South Korea. The E-Sport is in the Bachelor’s degree program of Science in Gaming Industry.
President Jokowi and Education Minister Muhadjir Effendy are discussing the development of 2013 Curriculum to complete the majors in vocational education, the Education Minister told Tempo.
